BBC Children in Need has awarded IROKO £24,990 towards providing cultural activities for children and young people in the London Boroughs of Barking & Dagenham, Lambeth, Newham and Southwark.
Some of the disadvantaged children and young people the project will reach out to have learning disorders or physical and/or mental disabilities.
Others are experiencing poor educational attainment and high levels of social deprivation.
IROKO hope to make a difference to their lives by providing them access and inclusion in stimulating, creative and therapeutic arts activities which their particular condition may normally not allow them to access.
According to Alex Oma-Pius FRSA, Artistic Director, IROKO Theatre Company, "This funding will enable IROKO to make a huge difference to the lives of the young people by helping to increase their self-esteem and confidence and also by helping to alleviate the social isolation, stress and emotional discomfort that some of them suffer".
